qbXML Command to Collapse/Expand reports

For QuickBooks Desktop reports such as general ledger report there isn’t any API command that can be used to retrieve whether expanded or collapsed transactions. In order to generate a collapsed or expanded report via the API, the user has to navigate to Company Preferences settings in QB GUI and check or uncheck the Collapse Transactions box. Furthermore, this option is not available on the Accountant version of QB and as a result the user is limited only to summarized reports. For transaction types such as General Journal, Credit Card Charge, Deposit, Bill, and Paycheck, if more than one customer or vendor is present within the same transaction, they will be summarized in a single instance with the value “-Multiple-“ on the Name column. Thus, the user is deprived from valid and important information regarding his/her business.

On the other hand, when using the QuickBooks GUI to generate the reports, the Collapse/Expand button can be easily used to modify the detail level of the transactions. A command to generate collapsed or expanded reports via the API similar to the QB GUI should be a necessary feature for QB SDK, especially for the Accountant version of QB.

You should know that Jameson & Co. is extremely frustrated by how vulnerable we feel, how much we feel we are at the mercy of the Intuit developers when they make changes that negatively impact our work product and business. To recognize that there’s a “bug” and not immediately fix it has translated into this being Jameson’s problem. That is unacceptable. We purchased CData ODBC driver for QB desktop after testing it with the expanded general ledger and found it to be good, real good. Now, we are having difficulty saying anything positive. I hope that CData can see this, perhaps feel our frustration and make the extra effort to influence Intuit to fix the “bug” as soon as possible to get us back on track.

        Thank you.
        Tim
